February 1st Hello February!   Surprise us, would you?

And how might February surprise us? Well for one thing, after the cold, cold, cold, months of December and January a little warmer weather (but not too warm) would be a nice surprise. And a couple of nice snow storms during the month would be a nice surprise as well, don't you agree? And just for good measure, how about an early spring? But of course that last request is not in February's realm; we'll have to wait and see what March has to say about that.
Ground Hog Day

Super Bowl Sunday
A Super Bowl winner I will not predict,
But my weather forecast, you cannot contradict,
That’s not a football lying beside me
It’s my shadow you see
So, six more weeks of winter it shall be!

February 4th Even when one is old the unexpected death of a classmate (especially in a class of only 26), can be a shocker. Due to a fairly recent situation of that sort, my best grade school/high school friend and I have just arrived in Escanaba Michigan (halfway between us) to spend two days chatting, remincising, and possibly drinking a little. Recently we've been seeing each other about once every five years and it's a shame that it took the death of a classmate to inspire this relatively short meeting. We now plan to make it an annual event.
February 5th Still in Escanaba; no entry.
February 6th Still in Escanaba; no entry.
February 7th Oh my goodness.......click HERE. Sarge (Brian Kielpinski) took that picture from his deck. One would think he could get it published somewhere, wouldn't one? Great picture Sarge, and thanks for letting me use it.

February 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th Sorry about this. Sigh.......
The Ides of February I'm not sure, but it's possible that this morning is the first time that the sun rose to an above zero temperature since December 6th, and that was a long, long, time ago.
Valentine's Day In honor of the day, here is a short dissertation on a few lines concerning LOVE from some of the plays of Euripides. I know it doesn't make a lot of sense.......but those were my thoughts when I wrote it back in 1997. Click HERE.

PS:   It's was about 15 below zero this morning.......that warm spell didn't last very long, did it?

February 17th Here's another neat deer picture from Sarge, which he took just this morning during the snow storm. Click HERE.

February 23rd Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati.   (How many people recognize that, I'm wondering. Gary? Sean?)
February 24th LBLR might not be Five Star accomodations, but it is the Official Resort of the Sochi Winter Olympics!!!! Therefore Tim and Jane arrived this morning for a few days of Skiing. They are staying in cabin 6.
February 25th Oh my goodness.......25 below zero again this morning. That's why there has been a shortage of entries this winter; that's all there is to talk about. Sigh.......
February 26th Darned winter weather! Click HERE. (Thanks Dotz.)
February 27th 33 below zero again this morning. I promise I'll quit saying that soon, but bear with me a bit longer, would you please? As Kin Hubbard said back in 1909:   Don't knock th' weather. Nine-tenths o' th' people couldn' start a conversation if it didn' change once in a while, and apparently I'm part of that nine-tenths.
February 28th If February surprised us (see the February 1st entry, above), its only surprise was that most of it, like most of December and January, was way below zero. But since the temperature this morning was only 13 below zero, it's warming up a tad so maybe March will be our savior. That darned Ground Hog!
